Compliments of the Season was the title of our demonstration this morning.  Gene Rohrs and Robyn Lapin decided on this very apt title obviously as it was the first meeting of the year and seasons greetings were in order, but actually they were referring to complimentary colours in our gardens at this time of the year…. With a bit of artistic licence of course!
For her first design Gene chose the complimentary colours of Yellow and Violet/Blue
Using a glass container elevated on a stand, with a small piece of wire covered oasis, she added beautiful tall agapanthus flowers, hydrangeas, yellow dracaena and gorgeous yellow roses. What a lovely cool and calm design for a very hot morning!
Robyn chose Orange and Blue compliments
Robyn and Gene had challenged themselves to use as much garden material as possible – and as they both have fabulous gardens, I am sure this was not too difficult for them.
Using a tall blue modern container with some organza fabric she started by inserting lovely delphiniums and to contrast, vibrant orange roses.  With some added licence she included some grey echeveria, and orange bromeliad flowers for contrast of not only colour, but texture too.
Gene’s next design was the compliment of Magenta and Lime Green.
A tall glass vase with a lime green bromeliad in the base, a drape of lime organza and oasis in wire was the start to this striking design.  Cordyline and dracaena leaves to start with, filling with stunning magenta allamanda flowers, a softer pink ixora and a final addition of red amaranthus.
Red and Green was the final complimentary colour scheme with Robyn using some giant delicious monster leaves which were cleverly placed to great effect.  Added to this was some garden heliconia and lastly bright red anthuriums to add the final touches to this bold and beautiful design.
Thank you so much to Gene and Robyn for a fabulous start to the year – and Compliments of the Season to you both!
